The price of eggs has skyrocketed — here’s why they’re not coming down anytime soon

Egg prices have surged recently, and it’s not just a temporary spike. Several factors are contributing to the rising cost, and they’re not expected to ease anytime soon.

Avian Influenza The biggest cause of the egg price hike has been the spread of avian influenza (bird flu), which has wiped out millions of hens across the country. This has significantly reduced egg production.

Rising Feed Costs The cost of poultry feed, such as corn and soybeans, has skyrocketed. With higher feed prices, the cost of raising hens has increased, leading to higher prices for eggs.

Supply Chain Issues Ongoing disruptions in supply chains have made it harder to get eggs to grocery stores, further driving up prices. Transportation and labor shortages have also contributed to these delays.

Strong Demand Eggs remain in high demand, both in households and the foodservice industry.

With continued demand and limited supply, prices will likely stay high for the foreseeable future.

Until production stabilizes, egg prices will likely remain elevated.
