Breed Characteristics of Long-Haired Dachshunds

Long-haired Dachshunds are a distinct variety of the Dachshund breed, known for their elegant, flowing coats and lively personalities.

They share many physical traits with their short-haired and wire-haired counterparts but stand out due to their beautiful, silky fur.

Appearance: Long-haired Dachshunds have a striking, wavy or straight coat that covers their body, ears, and tail.

Their fur is typically soft and glossy, requiring regular grooming to prevent matting. They have a compact, elongated body with short legs, which is characteristic of the breed.

Temperament: These dogs are known for being friendly, affectionate, and playful. They can be a bit stubborn at times, making training a challenge, but they are highly loyal to their owners and enjoy being the center of attention.

Size: Like all Dachshunds, long-haired varieties come in two size categories: standard (about 8-9 inches at the shoulder) and miniature (about 5-6 inches at the shoulder).

Health: While generally healthy, they are prone to back issues due to their long bodies. Regular exercise and weight management are essential for their well-being.
