Patrick Mahomes issues apology after Chiefs reach Super Bowl with Bills win

Patrick Mahomes acknowledged that his celebrations could use some work after propelling the Kansas City Chiefs to a third consecutive Super Bowl.

The Chiefs narrowly edged out the Buffalo Bills, 29-32, in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, with Mahomes turning in a masterful performance at Arrowhead Stadium.

The megastar quarterback completed 18-of-26 passes for 245 yards and one touchdown while additionally rushing 11 times for 43 yards and two scores.

On the heels of the dominant showing, however, Mahomes’ failed celebration was just about all anybody could talk about.

With just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Mahomes faked a handoff to running back Kareem Hunt before tucking it himself and barreling into the endzone behind lead blocker Travis Kelce.

Moments after scoring his second rushing touchdown of the evening, the 29-year-old attempted to spike the football into the turf but lost his grip, causing the ball to harmlessly flail out of camera view.

CBS announcer Jim Nantz couldn’t help but poke fun at the botched celebration, joking over the broadcast: “And his worst pass of the night is on the spike attempt!” It didn’t take long for droves of fans to join in on the playful bashing.
