Major winter storm slowly moves east with snow, severe potential

A major winter storm is inching its way eastward, impacting millions with a mix of snow, ice, and severe weather threats.

The system, which has already caused significant disruptions in the Midwest, is expected to bring heavy snowfall and icy conditions to parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Snowfall accumulations could range from 6 to 12 inches in some areas, with localized spots receiving even more.

In the Southeast, the storm's warmer edge is creating the potential for severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes.

Authorities urge residents to stay weather-aware as conditions may rapidly deteriorate. Travel has become hazardous, with delays and cancellations affecting major highways and airports.

Emergency management officials are advising residents to prepare for possible power outages and challenging travel conditions.

The storm is forecast to continue its trek eastward over the next 24 to 48 hours, bringing a wide range of weather hazards. Stay tuned to local weather updates and heed warnings to stay safe during this significant winter event.
