Research Says There Are 5 Distinct Cat Personality Types

Recent research has identified five distinct cat personality types, known as the "Feline Five," which align with the human Big Five personality traits:

Extraversion: Cats with this trait are active, curious, and sociable. They enjoy exploring their environment and interacting with humans and other animals

Dominance: Dominant cats are assertive and may display controlling behaviors, such as guarding resources like food or resting spots. They often seek to establish their authority within the household.

Impulsiveness: These cats act spontaneously and may exhibit erratic behaviors. They can be unpredictable, reacting differently to the same situation on different occasions.

Agreeableness: Agreeable cats are tolerant and easygoing. They are generally calm and adaptable, making them suitable companions in multi-cat households

Neuroticism: Cats with high neuroticism may be anxious, fearful, or easily stressed. They might be sensitive to changes in their environment and require a stable and secure setting.

Understanding these personality types can help cat owners provide environments that cater to their pets' individual needs, promoting well-being and reducing stress.
